South African rapper Sam Turpin has announced the release of his first full length mixtape, 4am In Jozi.
Due on the 1st of August via Apple Music and Spotify, the project produced entirely by Turpin himself contains two special features (to be announced in July), the tape sees Sam take an increasingly musical approach to production and lyric cadence, incorporating both synthesisers and acoustic instruments and both flowing bars and vocal dips. With content ranging from dealing with the loss of his mother to the current social situation in South Africa, the project explores the general and personal anxieties of a global citizen as well as the sense through which someone who has been through something so personal yet still has some empathy for society, looks from the past and towards the future.
To coincide with the release of the mixtape, Turpin has shared a new video from the project. Shot in downtown Johannesburg, Luna Vibe sees Turpin reflecting the nighttime anxieties of Johannesburg's youth.
