This autumn/winter, Carhartt WIP look to the past, present and future.
Classic items sit comfortably alongside fresh additions, creating a compelling and cohesive collection of contemporary workwear, cherished staples and new icons.
One hundred years from its creation, this season will see iconic Chore Coat celebrate its hundredth anniversary. Not many garments can claim to have outlasted ten decades of shifting trends and styles, and as a result, there’s something reassuring about the familiarity of this much loved Carhartt WIP classic – you always know what you’re going to get. However, this season’s collection doesn’t simply celebrate one item. Carhartt WIP have remastered and retouched a host of staples, injecting them with some seasonal freshness. The hardwearing workwear styles remain – but there’s pops of seasonal colour and new fabrics too, such as stretch wool blends and valley corduroy.
Autumn/winter 2017 sees the continuation of Carhartt's Military capsule, with utilitarian detailing, ripstop fabrics and camouflage motifs. In addition, there’s seasonal military graphics where pacifist politics meets Cali punk. This is augmented by a number of wool iterations of classic Carhartt WIP styles, and seasonal check flannels. All of these themes are repeated for their womenswear collection, with altered silhouettes to ensure a better fit. This season also includes a selection of futuristic sportswear, complemented by reflective detailing and minimalist branding. Each piece is informed by the same principles of the original Chore Coat – comfort, durability and functionality – but is executed from a modern design standpoint. For now, they’re just new – but maybe, one hundred years from now, we’ll be celebrating them too.
