With skinny fits creeping out in 2016, Universal Works revive the baggy trouser this season.
The renaissance of the baggy trousers was officially confirmed with nearly all the collections at LC:M featuring baggy trousers, with marque designers like Burberry and Alexander McQueen all favouring a looser flowing silhouette. Universal Works have been pioneers of this resurgence and have been featuring baggy trousers in their collections as a staple season after season refusing to commit to the trend of skinny fit.
The new baggy trouser presents an updated and more refined loose fitting trouser, that sits on the hip, tapered in the leg with some ranges offering a cropped, mock rolled up hem for a more casual look. Universal Works' SS'16 collection draws inspiration from Edwardian floor tiles to Wes Anderson films, of which the latter is easily recognisable from the strict and limited colour palette of navy, camel, white, and grey which is prevalent throughout the collection of loose fitting trousers. The trousers comes in a range of different fabrics all of which are light airy and breathable with slightly different degrees of bagginess but all staying true to their fundamental belief that baggy is better. This season UW also have something for the days you want to get your pins out, with a collection of highly wearable outerwear shorts, shirts and t-shirts which perfectly complement the trousers to create an understated, timeless casual tailored look which is synonymous with Universal Works and at the heart of everything they strive to achieve.
