This year Original Penguin Celebrate their 60th anniversary with the help of Universal Music.
The previous series of Plugged In gigs has showcased the brand’s ongoing love affair with music and has seen the likes of Jake Bugg, Twin Atlantic, Nick Mulvey, Peace, Gorgon City and more take to intimate stages for tiny crowds, celebrating the brand’s intrinsic link to the music scene. Now in 2015, after six decades, Original Penguin is teaming up with iconic label, Universal Music, to celebrate the cream of the UK’s talent who have spoken to us about their favourite era of music.
To introduce the project, Original Penguin enlisted the help of Kent's Slaves, who have quickly proved themselves as one of 2015's hottest talents, coming out of nowhere to take the charts and live scene by storm, infecting the mainstream with their visceral, game changing modern punk. Needless to say, they are one of Britain's most original acts at the moment, which makes them perfect for #PluggedIn60.
Ahead of a nationwide headline tour taking place later this year, Original Penguin took Slaves straight to the people for a guerrilla gig in Manchester's Piccadilly Gardens. Announced just hours before, the duo drew a gargantuan crowd in the city centre, reinventing their definitive sound for a one-off acoustic performance, which of course ended in debauchery and crowdsurfing.
This raucous performance of the pair's latest single 'Sockets' seamlessly proves why the pair embody the #PluggedIn60 spirit, showcasing their incredible talent cut with interviews explaining why the 1950's is so inspirationally important to them.
To finish this exciting year off in style, Original Penguin will also be throwing a huge free gig with 2 headlining artist. For more info keep in touch online.
